Waukesha Makerspace provides several types of storage options to help members manage and organize their ongoing projects and materials. All storage options—including lockers, pallet racking, and floor space—are only available to members who rent storage space through the makerspace. Details and pricing for these storage options can be found on the Membership Rates & Pricing page.
¶ Locker Storage (Small and Large)
Lockers are available in two sizes and are intended for storing tools, small materials, and personal project components.
Locker Rules:
- 🔓 First Come, First Serve: Locker space is limited and assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Submitting a request does not guarantee availability.
- 📋 Availability: All locker requests are subject to availability and must be approved by a board member.
- 🔒 Personal Locks: Members may use their own padlocks. However, Waukesha Makerspace reserves the right to remove any lock in the event of an emergency or for maintenance purposes.
- ❌ Prohibited Items: The following items may not be stored in lockers:
- Hazardous or flammable chemicals
- Explosives or combustible materials
- Weapons or ammunition
- Food or perishable items
- ✅ Containment: All items must be fully contained within the locker with the door able to close and latch properly.
- 🧹 Cleanliness: Lockers must be kept reasonably clean and organized. Spills, leaks, or odors may result in the locker being cleared.
- 🪪 Labeling: Lockers must be clearly labeled with the member's name and contact information.
Pallet racking is available for members needing to store larger items, equipment, or materials.
Pallet Rack Rules:
- 🔓 First Come, First Serve: Pallet rack space is limited and subject to availability. Requests are reviewed and approved by the board on a case-by-case basis.
- 📏 Size Limits: All items stored on pallet racks must:
- Fit within a 40” x 40” footprint (or on a standard 40” x 48” pallet)
- Not exceed 40 inches in height
- 📦 Stability: Items must be stacked securely and safely. No unstable or top-heavy loads are allowed.
- ❌ Prohibited Items: The following are not permitted:

- Loose liquids or leaky containers
- 🔄 Mobility & Flexibility: The makerspace reserves the right to move pallets to other racking locations as needed for space optimization.
- 🪪 Labeling: All pallet-stored items must be clearly labeled with the member's name and contact info.
Floor space storage is intended for short-term or project-specific needs and requires advance approval.
Floor Storage Rules:
- 🛒 Carts Required: All items must be stored on a cart so they can be safely moved if needed.
- ✅ Member-Supplied Carts: Members may use their own carts, but carts must have working wheels or casters to ensure they are mobile and can be moved by others when necessary.
- 🧰 Makerspace-Owned Carts: Members may request to use makerspace-owned carts for floor storage if any are available, but prior approval is required.
- 🔍 Cart Certification: All carts—whether member-owned or makerspace-owned—must be inspected and certified by a makerspace member as safe and functional before storage use is approved.
- ⏳ Time Limits: Floor storage is temporary and must be cleared by the agreed-upon date. Overstaying your storage time may result in additional fees, outlined in the Membership Rates & Pricing page.
- 🧼 Cleanliness & Safety: Items stored on the floor must not obstruct walkways, block access to tools, or present any hazards to members.
- 🪪 All stored items must be clearly labeled with the member’s name and contact information.
- ❌ Items left unlabeled, unapproved, or in violation of these policies may be removed or discarded at the board’s discretion.
- 🔁 Storage availability and rules are subject to change as the space evolves. Members will be notified of any major policy updates.
By following these storage policies, members help maintain a clean, safe, and collaborative environment for everyone at Waukesha Makerspace. If you have questions or need help determining which storage option is right for you, please contact a board member or post in the Discord server.
