Active Participation & Engagement:
As a member of Waukesha Makerspace, you play an important role in maintaining a supportive, innovative, and productive environment. While you’re free to explore projects at your own pace, we encourage you to engage with others, share your expertise, and learn from fellow members.
Clean-Up Protocols:
Keeping our space clean, organized, and ready for the next member ensures a positive experience for everyone.
- Immediate Tidying: After finishing a project or using a workstation, remove all tools, materials, and personal items. Wipe down surfaces to remove dust, debris, or spills.
- Tool Storage: Return tools to their proper storage locations, following any labeling or color-coding systems. If you find a misplaced item, return it to the correct spot.
- Waste Disposal: Dispose of trash and scrap materials in designated bins. Recycle and compost when possible. If you’re unsure about proper disposal methods, ask a fellow member or board representative.
- Shared Equipment: If a tool malfunctions or appears damaged, report it immediately to ensure it’s repaired promptly. Leaving broken equipment in circulation can pose a safety risk and delay other members’ work.
Community Contributions:
Building a thriving, creative community requires collective effort. Members are encouraged to:
- Share Knowledge: Offer tips, tricks, or tutorials to help newcomers learn new techniques.
- Mentorship: Guide less experienced makers through challenging tasks, fostering a culture of skill-building and mutual support.
- Resource Suggestions: Recommend supplies, vendors, or instructional resources that benefit the entire community.
- Feedback & Ideas: Suggest improvements, new classes, or events to board members or on our communication channels to keep the makerspace evolving and growing.
Volunteering (Highly Encouraged but Not Required):
While volunteering is not a requirement for membership, it’s a valuable way to give back and help the makerspace thrive. Volunteering can be as simple as donating a few hours of your time, and it comes with the satisfaction of contributing to a vibrant creative hub.
Possible Volunteer Roles Include:
- Tool Maintenance & Repair: Help keep our tools and equipment in good working order, perform routine checks, replace consumables, and assist with minor repairs.
- Organizing & Inventory: Sort, label, and stock materials or supplies. Organize storage areas to ensure easy access and efficient workflow.
- Event Support: Assist during workshops, classes, or community events—setting up chairs, preparing materials, or helping guests navigate the space.
- Outreach & Marketing: Spread the word about the makerspace, create promotional materials, or represent us at local events, building community ties and attracting new members.
- Facility Upkeep: Pitch in with painting walls, installing shelving, or improving signage to keep the environment welcoming and functional.
By following these expectations and embracing opportunities to contribute, you help maintain a safe, organized, and collaborative makerspace that benefits all members. Your efforts ensure that everyone can enjoy a positive, creative experience at Waukesha Makerspace.
